How we sized them up
This guide is research-based. We did not test these chairs in our home. The shortlist comes from manufacturer specifications, published reviews at BabyGearLab, Wirecutter and What to Expect, and parent reviews read in full. We compared age and weight limits, harness type, tray adjustability, footprint, fold and seat material for each model.
Every product in this guide was checked against the CPSC recall database on October 25, 2026, and each manufacturer listing was checked for a stated safety certification, including ASTM F404, the federal high chair standard at 16 CFR 1231, and Baby Safety Alliance certification. High chairs carry a long recall history for tip-over, restraint and tray failures, and the check changed this list. The Stokke Clikk was left out because CPSC recalled white Clikk chairs from a December 2020 production run in April 2022, after reports that the seat could break. Brand-level recalls for other models were also reviewed for each pick, and the notes in each review state what the check found.

Harness and fit
A 5-point harness adds shoulder straps and holds a young baby upright during the first months of solids. A 3-point harness appears on the boosters and wooden chairs in this guide and suits older babies and toddlers who sit steadily. Every chair here lists its harness type in the spec table, and the restraint only works when it is buckled and snug at every meal.
Footprint, fold and straps
Full-size chairs claim floor space full time, and the Blossom and Siesta footprints are the largest in this guide. Folding chairs like the Float and Siesta store between meals. Space-saver and booster models use a dining chair you already own, and they need a chair with a firm seat and a back the straps can circle.
Tray and cleaning
Check which parts are listed as dishwasher-safe before the first meal. Some models send the full tray to the dishwasher, some send a tray insert only, and the Float tray is wipe-clean only. Seat pads split the same way: machine washable, wipe clean, or fabric that goes in the wash after travel meals.
Specifications are based on published manufacturer and retailer information for the listed models.
